Tanda Francis, Biggie. Patrick Eugene, Deconstruction, 2017

The Medgar Evers College Library hosted an art exhibition featuring two Brooklyn-based artists, Patrick Eugène and Tanda Francis.

Deconstruction is a collection of paintings by Patrick Eugène, a Haitian American painter. The artist explains that the name of the exhibit comes from the current developments in East New York. New buildings are being constructed, but at the same time historical buildings are being torn down, community parks demolished, and whole communities destroyed.

Biggie is a sculpture created by the artist Tanda Francis. She was born in Washington, D.C., moved to New York to begin her career as a designer and soon found her voice as an artist. Her work features a mix of figurative and biomorphic shapes derived from human forms, nature, and geometry. Biggie Smalls was a music icon who represented the unique creative culture of Hip-Hop.
